Classifications of Aerial Lift Platforms & Scissor Lifts
A scissor lift consists of a series of crisscrossed steel arms that are connected to create an X pattern. When vertically raised, the X pattern of support holds the rectangular platform which is located on top of the lifting mechanism. There are support railings along the edges of the lifting mechanism in order to help secure the workers' tools and keep them safe.
The scissor lift has a low profile, best suited for smooth surfaces like hard dirt surfaces, concrete and pavement. These machines utilize either a combustion engine or electric motor to be able to move the lift and power the lifting apparatus. The operator will need to move the lift itself if she or he needs to travel horizontally, because the lift apparatus only operates the lift in a vertical manner.
Rough Terrain Scissor Lift
Rough terrain scissor lifts use the same lifting technology as a regular scissor lift. The key difference is that the rough terrain models feature a different base which is particularly made for surfaces that are uneven. These models also offer oversized all terrain tires and higher ground clearance. The rough terrain scissor lifts utilize 4-wheel drive so as to navigate through muddy and difficult terrain with no trouble.
Telescopic Boom Lift
Telescopic booms are designed to be elevated both diagonally and vertically. This specific unit has a small work platform which houses controls to be able to operate the boom. The controls function with a combustion engine so as to power the hydraulics that power the boom and move the lift. The telescopic boom lift has off-road capable tires and is an independent lift unit.
Articulating Boom Lift
There are two telescopic booms on the articulating boom lift. These are attached with a moving elbow apparatus. This lifting machinery has a bucket or a small work platform which is outfitted with hand controls in order to control the boom. These are stand-alone lifts that are powered by a combustion engine. Articulating boom lifts are offered with either hard surface or off-road tires. These lifts are made in order to reach over top of and on top of buildings.
Aerial Mast Lift
The aerial mast lift uses a telescopic mast so as to raise a work platform vertically into the air. Typically, these lifts are electrically powered or pneumatic powered and are self-propelled equipment. These machines provide a great solution for working in high racks within narrow warehouse aisles. It is vital to bear in mind that aerial mast lifts are not recommended for off-road application and are limited to vertical movement.
