Bud Bushnell founded Genie Industries in the year 1966, after he purchased the manufacturing rights to a material lift that functioned on compressed air. The name Genie came from the "magic in the bottle" which was used to lower and raise the hoist. This mechanism greatly impressed clients and hence, the name was born.
Genie expanded operations and established itself into various new markets, as the need for work lifts and platforms grew. Over time, as the demand for new equipment to meet many applications grew, the company made itself known in many new markets. Like for example, Genie went into production with telehandlers, stick booms, articulated booms, light towers and man-lifts.
Genie decided to secure a partner who had the same values as a result of the economic downturn in the start of the 2000s, when they partnered together with Terex. This company has a history acquiring equipment manufacturers across the world who proved to be a good business match. Genie Industries was sold during the year 2002 and became a part of Terex Corporation.
In the early years after the sale, it was determined to maintain the Genie brand name within the Terex Aerial Work Platforms or AWP segment of Terex, due to the name's solid reputation within the marketplace. Thus, all Genie machinery continue to be marketed under the Genie brand.
Genie takes pride in listening to their customers. The company is dedicated to continually improving efficiency and quality and is also dedicated to minimizing waste. Even long after the sale has been closed, the company focuses on offering exceptional support. These are the very work practices which have made Genie a trusted brand over the last decades and continue to keep their reputation for quality and top-of-the-line machinery.
Genie's DC and Bi-Energy machinery are emission-free, quiet machinery capable of working in delicate work environments. Where the machine must be driven significant distances, like for example within industrial situations, the Genie bi-energy system combines the power of a diesel-powered generator along with the advantages of a 48V DC machine.
Telescopic booms offer greater horizontal reach, compared to any of the various aerial platforms. These equipment are ideal for small areas or limited access areas in all kinds of environments. The Genie Telescopic S booms have been designed to offer utmost productivity. These machinery deliver the drive speed and supreme traction you require in order to travel around the job area and work site.
