Lift trucks, when used in indoor applications, are normally operated on cushioned tires which are made out of solid rubber. The pneumatic style of tires is the ideal option for outdoor operations. Pneumatic tires are common for heavy cargo and can be used on asphalt surfaces and on dirt roads.

For the most part, propane powered machinery is trusted to be safe. Propane has the reputation for being a clean burning fuel source. If the engine or machinery is not correctly tuned or maintained, then the propane powered engine can produce CO or carbon monoxide, along with other caustic oxides of nitrogen. Any internal engine which is not in optional running form may cause a similar situation. These produced gases can be extremely harmful in improperly ventilated or confined spaces.

Propane models emit less harmful gases compared to gasoline and diesel powered forklifts. Propane's chemical structure is quite simple. Because it is a gas, propane burns at a low temperature and mixes really well with air, as opposed to diesel or gasoline. Caustic oxides of nitrogen produced during propane combustion in the engine are less than those produced by a diesel or gas engine. Thus, a propane lift truck's engine typically lasts a lot longer compared to a gasoline or diesel powered lift truck unit.

With an IC engine, air is sucked into it from the surrounding area. This air is what causes the fuel to burn. A 60 horse-power forklift must breath in 5000 cubic feet of air per minute to be able to operate. Prior to operation, it is recommended to switch on a propane forklift outside and let it warm up for a bit. This is due to the carbon monoxide emissions as they read higher from a cold propane-powered engine or machinery and become less intoxicating when the machine has had a chance to warm up.

It is vital to remember that electric or battery powered forklifts could not be used outside in the rain for fear of damaging the battery if they get wet. A dangerous situation can occur because an electric forklift could short out because of rainwater getting in.

However, propane forklifts work really well in the rain. The propane is stored in the well sealed tanks on board. This means there is no possibility of a rainstorm interrupting the work of a driver. Propane lift trucks are really versatile and are capable of being used both for indoor and outdoor operations. Gasoline and diesel powered forklifts can suffocate you accidentally with dangerous gases if they are utilized indoors. A correctly tuned up and well maintained lift truck is truly a great way to effectively and safely handle your loads.
